  • Competitive exam in one of the following manners: essay on a socially meaningful theme or a competitive exam on a foreign language, or a general test, or an online competitive essay, or
  • The grades from the state maturity exams.

Specific rules for recognition of prior study:
Information and directions:
The coordinator for the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) provides initial information and directions about the possibilities for recognition and award of prior study credits.

The recognition of prior study and award of credits for certain disciplines from the curriculum and “Crime prevention and public order protection” specialty is done on the basis of the following documents that have to be handed over by the student:

  • Certificate for mastering of foreign language – English - FCE, TOEFEL; German - Zertifikat Deutsch, Sprachdiplom, Zweite Stufe; Russian – ТРКИ; French – DELF; Spanish – DELE;
  • Diploma for graduation of high/higher education or an academic reference from prior training in accredited higher school;
  • Document for professional training and qualification.

 

A possibility is provided for certification of knowledge and skills via taking an exam in VFU “Chernorizets Hrabar”:

  • On a foreign language in “Foreign language teaching” department;
  • For proving computer knowledge and skills in “Computer science” department.

 

Requirements and rules for qualification*:
The acquisition of qualification for Crime prevention and public order protection is accomplished after the curriculum requirements for the specialty have been met, which include 164 credits from mandatory disciplines, 42 credits from elective disciplines, 24 from optional disciplines and 10 credits from state exam.

Profile of the specialty:
The “Crime prevention and public order protection” specialty meets the demands for preparation of higher education specialists necessary for the crime prevention system, the preventive and correctional-educational activity on a national, regional and international level. The specialty has an interdisciplinary character. The disciplines are divided in three modules. The basic module includes general theoretical disciplines as well as public law and criminal law disciplines. The specialized disciplines enable the students to acquire knowledge and develop skills in two different fields – “Criminalistics” and “Criminal intelligence”.

Main results from the training:
The students who have graduated the “Crime prevention and public order protection” specialty acquire knowledge and develop skills which meet the modern requirements for crime prevention and control. The discipline prepares specialists who possess a variety of legal, criminological, pedagogical, psychological knowledge and skills, combined with other specific skills. The Criminalistics profile prepares specialists to conduct procedural activities in the pre-trial proceedings, as well as for consultants in governmental and private companies. The Criminal intelligence profile gives knowledge and skills to conduct operative and investigating activities, related to detection of crime perpetrators and extra-procedural inquiry and retention of evidence.

* In “Chernorozets Hrabar” Varna Free University, one credit corresponds to 30 hours of academic load which includes 10 hours university classes (lectures and seminar classes) and 20 hours of distance learning.

 

Type of training: regular/extramural/distance

Rules for semestral exams, grading and grades:
The content and requirements for each discipline from the curriculum are presented in a program where all criteria and rules for examination and grading of students have been described in detail. In the beginning of the course of lectures, the students are familiarized with them. The grading is done on the basis of the university class activity and the distance learning activity of the students – case solving, tests, essays on problems discussed in the course of lectures, course papers and projects, on-site studies, written and oral exams, etc. The grades are based on a six-grade scale (in words and digits) and with letter designations as per the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System where the highest grade is Excellent 6 (A), and the lowest grade for a passed exam and credit award is Fair 3 (E).

 

Optional of mandatory mobility windows:
Students are entitled to participate in the Erasmus student mobility program.

Internship:
The curriculum of this specialty has foreseen internship which is held in the Academy of the Ministry of the Interior – Center for specialization and special preparation in the city of Varna.

Professional profiles of graduates:
The acquired professional qualification allows the graduates to find a successful realization in the national security system, Ministry of the Interior, Ministry of Defense, in the municipal departments for public order and security, private security companies, banks, insurance companies.

Possibilities for continuation of training:
There is a possibility for continuation of training in various Master degree programs.
