International students can apply for higher education study in Bulgaria under the provisions of inter-state and inter-government treaties in the sphere of student exchange, as well as various cultural and scientific projects, or enroll in a paid program. Foreign citizens, who apply for study in Bulgarian higher education institutes, must have a document for completed secondary education, providing access to the higher education institutions in the country of graduating secondary education, or a document for completed higher education, or a higher education degree.

The minimum average grade of the school disciplines from the document for completed secondary education, which are forming the entrance grade for the chosen specialty, should be no lower than 62 percent of the maximum value of the grading system in the country of acquired education.

Foreign students are enrolled in Bulgarian higher education institutions on the basis of diploma review on compliance with any specific requirements the university might have.

DOCUMENTS REQUIRED OF FOREIGN STUDENTS TO APPLY AT VARNA FREE UNIVERSITY

1. an Application form addressed to the Rector of VFU with brief biographical data, the courses of study and the educational-and-qualification degree, which they are applying for
2. a copy of the document for completed secondary education, and of the appendix thereof with the grades, or a document issued by a competent authority for recognition of a degree of education. The minimum average grade from the academic disciplines in the document for completed secondary education, which form the admission rating score, cannot be lower than 62 % of the maximum value under the evaluation system in the country where the secondary education was acquired
3. a document issued by a competent authority, certifying that the candidate is entitled to continue his/her education at the higher education institutions in the country where the secondary education was acquired
4. a document issued by a competent authority, certifying that the holder of the document has been enrolled as a student at a higher education institution
5. an academic transcript – for students applying also with recognition of periods of study, completed at foreign higher education institutions
6. a medical certificate issued no earlier than one month before the date of applying. It has to be certified by the respective authorities in the home country of the applicant - only for PhD
7. a copy of the citizenship documents – for the applicants with dual citizenship, one of which is Bulgarian
8. a document for proficiency in the language of teaching in the prospective course of study – for the applicants who will not go through language or specialized training
9. 4 colour photographs – 3,5/4,5 cm.
