Assoc. Prof. Dr. Galina Mileva, a lecturer in the Department of Public Order and Security at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” received an award today in the “Most Effective Sections and Publications” category at the 13th National “READ & TRAVEL” Competition. The award recognizes her academic publication “The Right to Culture, the Right to Memory: The Protection of Cultural Heritage within the System of Fundamental Human Rights.”
The award was presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nadezhda Kostadinova, a member of the jury. The competition is part of the 21st International Tourism Exhibition “Cultural Tourism,” held in Veliko Tarnovo. It recognizes tourism websites, applications, publications, posters, and events that contribute to showcasing and promoting cultural heritage. The entries were evaluated by a seven-member jury chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sonya Aleksieva, with representatives from the tourism industry, the media, academia, and visual communications.
The award-winning publication explores the relationship between cultural heritage and fundamental human rights. The research focuses on the preservation of historic sites and places of memory as an essential aspect of protecting identity, dignity, and the right of communities to know and pass on their past. This approach connects academic research with cultural tourism as an opportunity for learning, dialogue, and encounters with different cultures.
The publication appears in the proceedings “Security and Public Order - Theory and Practice” from the 24th Summer Scientific Session of the Faculty of Law, organized by the Department of Public Order and Security. The proceedings were published by the University Publishing House of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.”
