ASSOC. PROF. GEORGI KALAGLARSKI, PHD WAS AWARDED THE GOLDEN HONORARY BADGE "FOR MERITS TO VARNA"

Assoc. Prof. Georgi Kalaglarski, PhD, a lecturer at the Faculty of Social, Economic and Computer Sciences of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar”, was awarded the honorary badge “For Merits to Varna” – gold. The award was presented to him on 15 August during the solemn ceremony for the Day of Varna at the Open - Air Theatre for his long-term contribution to academic education, regional journalism and public relations.

Assoc. Prof. Kalaglarski’s professional path is permanently connected with the development of journalism education at Varna Free University. He participated in the founding and management of the Department of Journalism and in the training of generations of journalists, public relations specialists and experts in the field of communications.

He combines academic work with his professional experience in journalism, publishing and public communications. He directs the master's programmes in Advertising and Public Relations in Business Management and Cultural Tourism Management; he is the author of scientific publications and is a member of the Union of Scientists in Bulgaria. His research is dedicated to the sociology of the media, regional journalism and contemporary communication processes. Among his books are "Varna Journalism 1990–2010", "The Black Sea Media 1990–2012", "The Power of the Dwarves - Regional Media and Political Situations" and "Media and the Modern World". In 2024, Assoc. Prof. Kalaglarski revived the Varna Newspaper of Newspapers founded in 1924, dedicated to the cultural life of the city. He participated in the creation of public relations organizations and supported the development of their structures in a number of regional cities.

As chairman of the Society of the Print Media of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists in Varna, he initiated the "Golden Trident" award for professional achievements in journalism and contribution to the cultural life of the city and the "Glossy Ibis" award for young journalists.
On 4 and 5 September, Assoc. Prof. Kalaglarski, together with the Union of Bulgarian Journalists and Varna Free University, organise the international forum Media, Arts and Artificial Intelligence with the participation of experts from Bulgaria, the USA and Korea. The event will mark the 100th anniversary of the International Federation of Journalists.

Assoc. Prof. Georgi Kalaglarski, PhD is the Chairman of the Control Council of the Union of Bulgarian Journalists and the winner of the "Golden Feather" award. He contributes to the development of professional contacts with the All-China Journalists Association and the Journalists Association of the Republic of Korea.

The Honorary Badge "For Merits to Varna" - gold, was also awarded to Capt. Borislav Arnaudov for the preservation of maritime history and traditions and Prof. Stanislav Slavchev, PhD for achievements in healthcare, medical science and higher education.

The title of "Honorary Citizen of Varna" was awarded to astronomer Ivan Ivanov for his contribution to the development of the Astronomical Observatory and Planetarium "Nicolaus Copernicus", the singer Darina Yotova - DARA and the Dutch public figures Ada D'Amcourt, posthumously, and Ton Delemare for the development of cultural relations between Varna and Dordrecht.
