FOUR AWARDS FOR STUDENTS FROM VARNA FREE UNIVERSITY

16 December 2019

The 13th Annual Student Awards of Varna Municipality were presented today at a solemn ceremony. Students from Varna Free University hold first place in two categories.

Victoria Dimitrova Todorova 5th year student, majoring in Law was awarded in the category Social, Business and Legal Sciences. In the category Technical Sciences the winner was Christian Ivanov - 5th year student, majoring in Architecture at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" who designed and created the relief map of the Seaside Garden.

The awards are given in recognition of the results achieved during the year and are intended to promote and make the achievements of students in a particular field of science popular. The ceremony was attended by the President of Varna Free University Assoc. Prof. Dr. Krasimir Nedyalkov.
The winners of the municipal competition "Best Diploma Work" were also awarded. The students received prizes from Prof. Stefan Vachkov, Chairperson of the Board of Directors of the Regional Organization of the Scientific and Technical Unions - Varna. Two of the awards were again given to students of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" - first place was given to the diploma work of the student Olga Golant, and third place was given to Anna Petrova for her project for a marina. Olga's award was received by the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture - Arch. Zhechka Ilieva.
Christian Ivanov helped the blind people to "see" Varna with their fingers. His relief map stands at the entrance of the Seaside Garden and is the world's first relief that uses the braille alphabet. "While I was making this model, it never occurred to me that I would leave something behind me," said Christian Ivanov, a student at VFU, majoring in Architecture. "Varna is a great city. This story we have, we can use it to show it to the world. Let's remind it first to all the citizens of Varna, and then to Varna's guests. The oldest processed gold in the world was found here. This is incredible. We have many other things. Let everything we do be sustainable, with cause and for all the people. Varna Free University stood firmly behind the idea and behind me. It was the bird that trusted me, stood on my shoulder and gave me wings for this project. The relief map itself, although a small step, is only the beginning that needs to be developed. I would like to start showing the Seaside Garden - every single object, routes, values, morals, facing our youngest fellow citizens, "said Christian Ivanov.

The President of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" expressed gratitude on behalf of the academic community to Varna Municipality for motivating young people. He wished the students to be proud of what they had accomplished and never stop dreaming.

The ceremony was also attended by the Director of the Directorate of Education and Youth in Varna Municipality Lilia Hristova, the chairperson of the Culture and Education Committee Assoc. Prof. Antoaneta Tsvetkova, lecturers, managers and guests.
