Graduates of Varna Free University won the contest of the jubilee edition of Startup Weekend Varna
Over 120 entrepreneurs took part in the jubilee edition of Startup Weekend Varna which was held on 26th and 27th May at the Technical University.
The “Memofy” project, developed by Chavdar Dimitrov – back end, danail Enchev – front end, Radostin Slavov – API and Ivailo Georgiev – marketing, won the first prize.
Three of the participants in the winner team are graduates of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” – Chavdar and Danail study in the master’s programme “Software engineering and management” and Ivailo Georgiev – in “Leadership in a global environment”. The focus of their work is a digital mix of user’s content – photos and videos – with preliminary prepared professional scenes. This way “Memofy” turns into a surplus value to the experience.
The four students will take part in a pre accelerator program focused on training how to protect their business idea when pitching it to real investors. “We’ll look for funding after that”, says Ivailo and asserts that the four of them are really a strong team.
“The specific thing is that for a weekend we managed to develop the main functionality which really works. We’ve chosen a development direction, a visual identification and intelligent algorithms for mixing base metadata” add the winners.
During the forum the participants had the chance to transform their innovative idea into business and to receive feedback from professionals. The future entrepreneurs were guided and supported by the programmers Yulian Sapundjiev, Galina Momcheva, Head of of the “Informatics and Economics” department at Varna Free University, digital expert Ivo Iliev, Kseniya Vinogradova – Startup manager, experienced in fund raising and Martin Popov from “Interactive share”.
The business ideas were assessed by Plamen Petrov from “The fund of funds”, Pressiyan Karakostov from “Pub Galaxy” and Yulian Borislavov from the hosting company of ICN.
The event was organized with the financial help of Varna municipality.
