IMPRESSIVE PUBLIC BUILDINGS FOR EDUCATION AND HEALTH CARE PRESENTED GRADUATING STUDENTS OF ARCHITECTURE AT VFU “CHERNORIZETS HRABAR”
The defence of the diploma projects of the students from the class of 2021 of Architecture at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" ended with three full marks. The State Examination Committee, chaired by Corr. Mem. Prof. Arch. Atanas Kovachev, D.Sc - Head of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism at the University, awarded the highest marks to the projects of Desislava Dimitrova, Chavdar Bakardzhiev and Denislav Angelov.
Among the members of the jury were the chairmen of the regional colleges of the Union of Architects in Varna - Arch. Nikolay Rachinski and the Chamber of Architects - Varna Regional College - Arch. Marin Velchev, as well as the lecturers Prof. Arch. Aleksandar Slaev, PhD and Assoc. Prof. Arch. Plamen Petrov, PhD.
The project for the establishment of a Centre for Digital Innovation, specialising in the field of artificial intelligence, was presented by the graduating student Desislava Dimitrova. The architectural solution formulates a new volume on the site of a previously existing reinforced concrete structure to an entirely new building. The diploma work takes place on a real terrain under the Frangen plateau in Varna. Desislava offers an impressive solution for the Innovation Centre- with a beautiful and functional facade. A special accent is a tangle of stylized, with which the student makes a reference to artificial intelligence and art, science, business and technology. The project combines a wealth of work and educational spaces with recreation areas. The jury assessed not only the proposed shapes, but also the spectacular image of the buildings.
A diploma project, presenting the most complex type of public buildings - for healthcare, was presented by Denislav Angelov. He presented a dental clinic, which complies with all requirements and medical standards, and at the same time there are clean, elegant and modern shapes and volumes of buildings. "The facade is like lace, in which the exterior and the interior complement each other," was the comment of the guests at the public defence. Scientific supervisors of the two projects are Arch. Radost Raynovska PhD and Asst. Prof. Arch. Boryana Nozharova.
The third full mark was for the architectural solution of a residential complex proposed by Chavdar Bakardzhiev. The project is on terrain in the area of Borovets South and is part of the planned in the General Development Plan of Varna expansion of the southern part of the city with residential areas.
The aim of the Department of Architecture and Urbanism is for the graduating students to work on real terrains and situations. Thus, within the framework of their diploma projects they do research and analyses of the adjacent territory, of the existing buildings, of the transport accessibility, the value of the environment, consider their projects with the wind rose, with the solstice and shading, said Assoc. Prof. Arch. Zhechka Ilieva, PhD - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
The graduating students gained similar experience during their student years at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". They participated in the study on the territory of the Taliana creative industries district in Varna, giving suggestions on how the streets should function in order to bring life back to them and to recognise them again as a place for meetings and experiences.
The Faculty of Architecture of Varna Free University is the only one in Northeastern Bulgaria that offers studies in Architecture and Construction of Buildings and Structures. 2022 will mark the 20th anniversary since the first graduated Architecture class, and this year the engineering specialties celebrate 25 years of impressive presence at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
Today is the diploma defence of the projects of students majoring in Interior Design and Graphic Design.
