
International students and students of the language and specialised training preparatory course of Varna Free University, as well as doctoral students, participated in the educational practicum "The Old Capitals of Bulgaria", organised by the Department of Foreign Language Teaching and Postgraduate Qualification. The cultural and educational trip took place on 13 and 14 June 2026.
The traditional initiative is part of the training of foreign students and combines the practical improvement of communication skills in Bulgarian and English with the acquaintance with Bulgarian history, culture and traditions.
Under the guidance of Assoc. Prof. Dimitar Marinov, PhD participants from Bangladesh, China, Russia and Ukraine visited the Pliska Archaeological Reserve, the Founders of the Bulgarian State Architectural Complex and the Old Town in Shumen, the Veliki Preslav Archaeological Reserve and Museum, as well as the Madara Archaeological Reserve.
During the two-day programme, the course participants got acquainted with some of the most significant monuments of Bulgarian statehood and culture, related to the period of the First Bulgarian State. The visits gave them the opportunity to enrich their knowledge about the historical development of Bulgaria and its contribution to European civilization.
The participants expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to learn about the country's rich historical heritage. According to them, the encounter with the emblematic historical sites contributed to a better understanding of the Bulgarian culture, traditions, and national identity.
