Law students from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" visited the National Assembly at the invitation of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament, Prof. Dr. Juliana Mateeva - a long-time lecturer at Varna Free University.

The visit, organized by the Faculty of Law, was attended by students from the two university teams that ranked second and fourth in the National Competition in Criminal Law, organized and held in April at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The distinguished students were accompanied by Prof. Dr. Galina Kovacheva - Head of the Department of Criminal Law, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Emilia Siderova - lecturer in Constitutional Law.

The highlight of the programme was the visit to the plenary session of the parliament, where the students had the opportunity to enrich their practical knowledge by observing the work of the deputies in the hall, getting acquainted with the procedural rules, the order of the deputies' speeches, as well as the adoption or rejection of texts of the bills submitted for voting. The students' attention was attracted by the speech techniques used by the deputies and by the rhetoric in the hall.

During the live broadcast on Bulgarian National Television, the Speaker of the Parliament, Prof. Natalia Kiselova, and the deputies applauded our students.

The visit also included a tour of the central lobby and its exhibition spaces and the press conference area, the media lounge next to the plenary hall, the sidelines, the east wing of the National Assembly and the library. The students were impressed by the majestic beauty of the National Assembly and its history, including the stenographic records of the sessions and the impressive archive kept in the library.

The programme also included a visit to the office of Prof. Mateeva as Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly. Prof. Mateeva held a talk with the students, sharing her impressions of working in the parliament, drawing attention to key procedural points from the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly. She expressed her sincere satisfaction that the students, who performed at an exceptionally high level in the National Competition in Criminal Law, have the opportunity to experience the work of the legislative body of the state.
