OVER 160 YOUNG PROFILERS PARTICIPATED IN THE COURSE ENTITLED PROFILING OF UNKNOWN CRIMINAL PERPETRATORS

04 February 2022

The course organised by the Faculty of Law at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" aroused great interest. This year as well, the course entitled Forensic Profiling of Unknown Perpetrators of Crimes, led by Prof. Yonko Kunchev, D.Sc.  - Dean of the Faculty and head of the master's degree programme in Forensic Science at the university attracted over 160 participants.

Traditionally, students from various specialties of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", graduates of the master's degree programme in Forensic Expertise, students from other universities, lawyers, acting investigative police officers actively participate in the training. Among the most numerous groups is that of the students from the Academy of the Ministry of Interior. The members of the Forensic Science Club are also particularly active. Last year, the young profilers, inspired by what they learned during the course, united around the idea of continuing to communicate with each other and created the "Criminologist Club".

Today, the participants in the training got acquainted with real examples from the past related to the detection of perpetrators of crimes. Their questions to Prof. Kunchev rained down one after another. At the end of the three-day course, the participants will be tasked with creating their own profile of an unknown homicide perpetrator based on evidence provided. They will then be able to compare their assumptions with the FBI's analysis.

Some of the participants in the course will continue their education in the master's degree programme in Forensic Expertise at Varna Free University. Another large group will join the one-week course in Forensics (investigative actions), which begins on 18 February and will again be led by Prof. Kunchev.
