Practical training in commercial law cases for students of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” with Judge Georgi Yovchev from the Varna Court of Appeal

Law students at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” took part in practical exercises and a brainstorming session with commercial law judge Georgi Yovchev from the Varna Court of Appeal. The meeting was part of the fourth-year students’ preparation for their upcoming participation in the National Interuniversity Competition for solving a case in the field of civil and commercial law, hosted by Burgas Free University.
Fourth-year students Vanesa Ignatova, Zdravka Litova, Yanitsa Mihaleva, Mila Boneva, and Ivan Bankov demonstrated knowledge of legislation and case law, analytical thinking, precise use of legal terminology, and close attention to detail.
The aspiring lawyers worked through various scenarios based on several case studies, assuming different roles in the proceedings - as plaintiffs, or defendants. They received guidance from their mentor on how to draft a statement of claim or a response to one.
The students aligned the rights of the parties with the provisions of the Bulgarian Commercial Act, the Law on Obligations and Contracts, and the Civil Procedure Code. Judge Yovchev provided direction on how to structure legal arguments depending on the specifics of each case and their role within it.
