Scientists from Eight Countries to Participate in the 14th International Scientific Conference “Design and Construction of Buildings and Structures”

Research on self-healing asphalt mixtures, low-carbon cements, 3D printing in construction, and materials recycling will be among the topics presented at the XIV International Scientific Conference “Design and Construction of Buildings and Structures” – DCB 2026. The forum, which will be held at Varna Free University, is under the patronage of the President of the Republic of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova.

The conference will open on September 10th at 10:00 a.m. in Hall 1 of the Academic and Sports Complex. It is organized by the Scientific and Technical Union of Civil Engineering in Bulgaria in partnership with the Faculty of Architecture at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.”

The scientific programme includes 101 papers. Scientists and specialists from Bulgaria, India, Ireland, China, Kosovo, Nigeria, Serbia, and Syria will take part.

The plenary presentation, “Modern Digital Technologies in Construction,” will be delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Rositsa Petkova-Slipets, Dean of the Faculty of Architecture at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar.” The other plenary presentation will focus on the structural characteristics and conservation potential of the National Assembly building, located on the square of the same name in Sofia. It will be presented by a research team comprising Prof. Dr. Eng. Dimitar Dimov, Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Eng. Nikola Angelov, and Chief Assist. Prof. Dr. Eng. Konstantin Velinov from the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy.

More than 20 students from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar,” the University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, and the Academy of the Ministry of Interior will also participate in the conference. They will present their own research and exchange experience with researchers and professionals in the fields of architecture and construction.

The papers are divided into three thematic sections. They cover new materials and technologies, energy efficiency, sustainable construction, structural design, seismic mechanics and engineering, foundations and geotechnical engineering, bridge and transport construction, architecture, and cultural heritage conservation.

During the forum, companies from the construction sector will present innovative products and practical solutions for the design and implementation of construction projects, supported by real-world examples.

Other key topics include the organization, economics, and management of construction, fire safety and civil protection in the event of disasters and crises, BIM, and the application of artificial intelligence. Some of the papers explore the changes that new digital tools are bringing to the design of buildings and structures.
