Students from Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” discussed business management and their future career opportunities with the entrepreneur Dobrin Dobrev, a graduate of the university and Managing Director of DIS EOOD.
The guest met with two groups of students: first-year students taking the Introduction to Management course and third-year students studying Strategic Management. The meetings took place during classes taught by Prof. Dr. Velislava Nikolaeva, a lecturer in the Department of Administration and Management. Participants included students from the Business Administration and Management, Public Administration and Management, and Informatics and Computer Science degree programmes.
Dobrin Dobrev has more than 15 years of experience in management, strategic leadership, international trade, and business development. DIS, the Bulgarian company he manages, specializes in importing and distributing hydraulic and industrial hoses, fittings, and assembly machinery. The company also organizes training courses for distributors. In his professional work, Dobrev focuses on building effective teams, optimizing business processes, introducing new technologies, and achieving sustainable growth.
During the meetings, students explored management as an everyday practice, the specific characteristics of Bulgaria’s business environment, and the challenges managers face. Dobrin Dobrev shared his experience of applying theoretical knowledge in real-world business settings and offered advice on preparing for the job market.
The entrepreneur emphasized that management extends beyond working hours. Management skills are valuable not only in the workplace but also in personal relationships, with taking responsibility at their core. Today employers seek professionals with a broad range of knowledge and skills, but also individuals who are willing to take responsibility for their decisions and actions.
According to Dobrev, managing people and teams is the most challenging aspect of management, constantly pushing managers outside their comfort zones. He also highlighted perseverance as one of the most valuable qualities for achieving success.
His most important advice to students was to listen carefully to their lecturers. The knowledge and advice they may casually overlook during their university years often have to be learned later through costly mistakes or paid consultations, explained the entrepreneur.
