On May 11th, 2026, at 1:30 p.m., the Aula Maxima at Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” will host a screening of the documentary film
Eighth Primorski Regiment. Prior to the screening, some of the film’s creators will visit the university to share insights into the historical research, creative process, and directorial work behind the project.
The film is dedicated to the history of the Eighth Infantry Primorski Regiment of Her Royal Highness Princess Maria Luiza. The unit, established in Varna in 1884, holds a key place in Bulgarian military history due to its participation in the wars for national liberation and unification. The film marks the 140th anniversary of the regiment’s founding and traces its combat history through a combination of archival footage, documents, and reenactments.
The production is a joint effort of National Movement “Tradition” (Varna branch) and the national television channel TV21. It offers a historical analysis of the events and presents testimonies about the lives of the servicemen who preserved the military memory and traditions of the region. The project was realized with the financial support of the Directorate Culture and Spiritual Development of the Municipality of Varna.
The event is open to students, faculty members, and members of the public interested in local and national history.
