The European Health Card and eHealth in the focus of a meeting with students and experts from the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)

The European Health Insurance Card gives equal rights to health-insured Bulgarian citizens when using medical care in all member states of the European Union. It provides access to necessary emergency and urgent care during a temporary stay abroad under the same conditions as local residents. In Varna, the card can be applied for and obtained at the offices of First Investment Bank.
This and other topics were the focus of the meeting held today at Varna Free University between first-year students and experts from the Regional Health Insurance Fund - Varna. Meglena Petkova and Julian Atanasov - experts at the Regional Health Insurance Fund, introduced the participants to the basic rights of health-insured people. The meeting was an opportunity for direct conversation and asking questions on practical cases.
The students were also presented with the possibilities of the eHealth application, which provides personal access to the health record. Its activation can be activated on site at the Regional Health Insurance Fund, the Regional Health Inspectorate or offices of Information Services. The application is personal and guarantees security of information, allowing tracking of medical activities performed and health services used.
The presentation also addressed topics related to prevention, access to dental care, and procedures for choosing and changing a general practitioner. The experts explained how to obtain up-to-date information and communicate with the institution. The event ended with an active discussion, in which the students received specific and useful answers related to health insurance.
