THE LEADERSHIP OF THE CHAMBER OF ARCHITECTS IN BULGARIA VISITED VARNA FREE UNIVERSITY

The Chairman of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria, Arch Borislav Vladimirov, the Vice-Chairmen and members of the CAB leadership visited Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” within the framework of the Month of the Faculty of Architecture, dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the university and 30 years of architectural studies at Varna Free University.

The visit of the CAB leadership is at the invitation of Arch Marin Velchev – Chairman of the CAB – Varna, lecturer, who graduated from VFU with a degree in architecture.  

During the visit, the leadership of the Chamber of Architects held a meeting with architecture students, to whom they presented the activities, structure and public role of the Chamber of Architects. The conversation raised important topics related to professional ethics, design qualifications, membership in the professional organization, opportunities for professional development of young architects.

The students showed particular interest in the practical aspects of the profession and the transition between academic education and real design practice. During the discussion, it was emphasised that a successful architect must combine creative thinking, professional training, communication skills and knowledge of the regulatory environment.

Earlier in the day, the leadership of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria held a meeting with the academic leadership of Varna Free University. The university was represented by the Vice President Yani Yanev, the Deputy Rectors Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eleonora Tankova, and Prof. Dimitar Kanev, D. Sc, and the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture Assoc. Prof. Rositsa Slipets.

In the course of the discussion, the university leadership presented the concept for establishing Varna Free University as a university of applied sciences – a model based on the active connection between education, professional practice and real social needs.

The main focus of the discussion was on the establishment of a sustainable partnership between the university and the professional organization through five strategic pillars. The participation of representatives of professional practice in the development and updating of curricula and programmes, the inclusion of practicing experts in the educational process, the expansion of internship programmes, the participation of professional organizations in diploma defenses and the assessment of the final results of the training were commented on.

The Chairman of the Chamber of Architects, Arch. Vladimirov, expressed readiness for active cooperation with Varna Free University and participation in the processes of training future architects.

“The tendency and direction of the Chamber of Architects is close cooperation with universities. This is the first place through which future professionals pass,” the Chairman of the Chamber of Architects Arch. Borislav Vladimirov said.

During the meeting, the possibility of creating a long-term mechanism for interaction between the academic environment and professional practice was also discussed.

The Dean of the Faculty of Architecture, Assoc. Prof. Rositsa Slipets, emphasised that architecture students at Varna Free University have been working with practicing architects and experts since their first year, and representatives of the architectural guild actively participate in the diploma defenses and examination committees.

Tomorrow – 29 May 2026, the Management Board of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria will hold an external meeting at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar".
