THE RECTOR OF VFU "CHERNORIZETS HRABAR" HELD A WORKING MEETING WITH THE INNOVATION COUNCIL AT THE BULGARIAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE AND INDUSTRY

The Rector of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" Prof. Petar Hristov, PhD held a working meeting with Assoc. Prof. Yosif Avramov - Co-Chairperson of the Innovation Council and member of the Management Board of the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Prof. Hristov presented the projects on which the university works in the field of circular economy and cybersecurity, and Assoc. Prof. Avramov told about the activities of the Innovation Council at the Bulgarian Chamber of Commerce and Industry /BCCI/. He invited scientists from VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and companies from Varna to participate in the competitions of the Innovation Council:
- for the most successful innovative company,
- for the best innovative project,
- for the most promising startup.
Based on the successful experience of Varna Free University in the implementation of educational products and initiatives in the field of entrepreneurship, a joint participation of the academic community of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" was agreed also in upcoming events of the innovation Council, including the forum for financing startups in Varna in March 2021, together with the Varna Chamber of Commerce and Industry and The Fund of Funds, as well as with representatives of the regional branches of leading Bulgarian banks in Varna.
The meeting between the management of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" and the BCCI was provoked by the presentation of the head of the Department of Informatics at Varna Free University - Assoc. Prof. Galina Momcheva, at the roundtable discussion on "Innovative approaches in the activities of the Student Institute of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (Uchi-BAS) ”. Assoc. Prof. Momcheva presented the work on the research ecosystem "BioMed Varna" created by her and Assoc. Prof. Stoyan Pavlov from the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" in Varna. They told about the projects of the research ecosystem, on which lecturers, students from the master's degree programme in Data Science and doctoral students at the Department of Informatics at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" work together with lecturers and doctoral students of the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology at the Medical University, as well as with school students. The students from the Mathematical Secondary School "Dr. Petar Beron" Mark Kirichev and Simeon Atanasov, who participate in the research group, also took part in the meeting.
In the last two years, "BioMed Varna" has been developing research topics for the analysis of biomedical images, and will expand the focus in the field of bioinformatics (together with companies from the ICT Cluster - Varna), as well as in the field of BrainUI.
