A student scientific forum dedicated to the contemporary problems of the regional development and urban planning was held over the weekend at the Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar". The event was organized by the Student Council of the university with the financial support of Varna Municipality. A competition for student ideas in the field of the circular economy was also announced.

The forum was honored by the chairperson of the Board of Trustees of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar" Prof. D.Sc. Anna Nedyalkova, the Vice President of the University Yani Yanev, Prof. D.Sc. Dimitar Kanev - vice-rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eleonora Tankova - dean of the Faculty of International Economics and Administration, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Eng. Rositsa Petkova - Slipets - dean of the Faculty of Architecture, arch. Marin Velchev - chairman of the Chamber of Architects - Varna branch, Rodislav Kuzmanov - expert in the Education and Youth Activities Directorate of the Municipality of Varna, many students, experts and guests.

The student scientific forum was opened by Prof. D.Sc. Anna Nedyalkova - chairperson of the Board of Trustees of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". She congratulated the Student Council for the topicality of the chosen topics and emphasized that regional development and the circular economy are leading interdisciplinary problems of today, to which young people are called to look for solutions crossing the boundaries of different scientific fields. "It is the young generation that must offer ideas to society, provoking our and their thoughts," she said at the opening of the forum.

Prof. D.Sc. Dimitar Kanev presented his expert position regarding regional development and the circular economy. The inclusion of Dr. Rumen Pehlivanov - Mayor of Rudozem Municipality, who a month ago defended the first doctoral degree in the field of circular economy, was expected with particular interest. Prof. Emil Panushev, Assoc. Prof. Nikolina Grozeva, Assoc. Prof. Ralitsa Zhekova and Assoc. Prof. Arch. Plamen Petrov also expressed their scientific opinion.

Students from different universities and majors presented 10 papers. Dorothea Nikolaeva - a fifth-year student in Architecture introduced the audience to the topic "Where to? Urban development of Varna", Mariana Yordanova chose the topic of the regional development of Ruse, and Georgi Ganev presented the possibilities facing the town of Kazanlak. Bozhidar Panayotov analyzed the marketing opportunities for small business development during large-scale sports events. The youngest participant in the forum was Rada Koleva - a student in the XII grade in the IV language school "Frédéric Joliot-Curie", who presented the topic on the ecologically sustainable development of the Black Sea and the Bulgarian Black Sea coast.

The papers presented at the forum will be reviewed, and the best ones will be published in the electronic journal of Varna Free University.

The Circular Economy competition was also launched, with the students getting tasks to create their startup idea. On November 15, the participants will present their solutions. The best performers will be awarded certificates and prizes.

The forum is part of the scientific research activity of the student organization of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar", which celebrates 25 years since its establishment. It was implemented with the financial support of Varna Municipality.
