The university’s legal community marked the Constitution Day with a lecture and an exhibition

16 april 2026

The legal community of Varna Free University “Chernorizets Hrabar” marked Constitution Day and the professional holiday of Bulgarian lawyers with a ceremonial event held in the University Library, dedicated to constitutional values and legal tradition.

On this occasion, a thematic exhibition was organized, featuring the first edition of the Tarnovo Constitution, selected foreign constitutions, specialized literature on constitutional law, as well as original issues of the State Gazette from 1928 and 1929.

The event was opened by the Director of the Library, Daniela Cherneva, who presented the exhibition and highlighted the opportunities that the rich library collection offers students for education and research.

A highlight of the programme was the lecture by Assoc. Prof. Emilia Siderova, PhD, titled “The Invisible Power of the Constitution.” It emphasized that the true strength of the Constitution manifests itself in times of trial, not in times of consensus. It is then that it fulfills its most important functions - ensuring the rule of law, protecting citizens’ rights, and maintaining the balance of powers. In conclusion, it was underlined that the resilience of statehood depends on the sovereign will of the people to uphold constitutional principles - the source of that invisible yet decisive power.

The event concluded with a quiz featuring questions from the current Constitution, in which students demonstrated excellent knowledge and active engagement with legal matters.
