Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" signed cooperation agreements with two Hungarian universities with which it has a similar scientific and educational profile - Dunaujvaros Universit
y and John von Neumann University. This took place at the first Bulgarian-Hungarian Rectors' Forum, which was held in Samokov. The forum was organised by the Council of Rectors of Higher Education Institutions in Bulgaria in partnership with the Municipality of Samokov, the Regional Development Council of Samokov and the Trade and Economic Affairs Service at the Embassy of Bulgaria in Hungary.
The main discussion topic of the forum was "Higher Education - Key to Innovation and Regional Development", and the goal - to promote cooperation and exchange of good practices between Bulgarian and Hungarian universities. Official guests of the event were the Deputy Minister of Education and Science, Acad. Nikolay Vitanov and H.E. Miklós Borós - Ambassador of Hungary to Bulgaria. The leaders of higher education institutions from Bulgaria and Hungary, representatives of the business and academic community attended the forum.
The Hungarian representatives at the forum shared their experience in implementing academic reform and the transformation of state universities. The opportunities of the Pannonia Programme and the Danube University Alliances for more effective university integration of the countries of the Danube region were also presented.
Possibilities for deepening institutional cooperation between Bulgarian and Hungarian higher education institutions were discussed, supported by the 40 memoranda of cooperation signed between the educational institutions of the two countries.
