Master's degree students in Circular Economy at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" visited the plant for processing of solid waste "Ecoinvest Assets" near the village of Ezerovo. They got acquainted on the spot with the waste processing. The director Emil Dichev told about the work of the plant.

The visit is part of the practical classes in their training in the Circular Economy programme.
25 students study in the second class of this one-of-a-kind for Bulgaria and the European Union interdisciplinary master's programme in Circular Economy. They are scholarship holders of the Board of Trustees of VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar". The programme is run under the auspices of the European Commission's Directorate-General for the Environment.

"I chose to study in the master's programme in Circular Economy at Varna Free University as we study disciplines that can help us in the vision and the desire to make the municipality of Provadia greener and more environmentally friendly," said Dimo Dimov, chairman of the Municipal Council in the town.

Maria Dzhunlieva, who works in the logistics department in a transport company and is a student in the master's programme, believes that circular economy is the only way to protect the natural environment and improve the place where we live.

"Within the master's programme, students have already become acquainted with a number of disciplines related to sustainable development and EU policies to implement circular economy models. The master’s students are representatives of various municipalities, companies and organizations. They had the opportunity to see the complex process of waste. The role of the master's programme is to support the development of such young professionals who can be successfully realized in the country, as well as to participate in the implementation of European projects," said Prof. Emil Panushev, PhD, head of the master's programme.

The master's programme in Circular Economy offers specialised training on current issues of resource efficiency through the application of waste-free, low-energy and green technologies, environmental protection and waste management in accordance with international, European and national criteria and requirements. The circular economy is a new model that is being promoted by the EU not only among the member states, but all over the world. The main goal is to reduce the impact on the environment and to save the resources of our planet. The circular economy must become something generally accepted and lasting within the framework of national and regional policies, it must take a permanent place in the fields of tourism, agriculture, transport, energy. This model should be actively adopted by business, but should also be set as a development of the social economy, said at the opening of the programme George Kremlis - Honorary Director of the Directorate General for Environment at the European Commission.
