08 May 2019

The Institute for Psychological Counselling and the Department of Psychology at Varna Free University "Chernorizets Hrabar" conducted the first in Bulgaria training module that combines psychological and legal knowledge. In the postgraduate qualification module entitled "Psychosocial Assessment in Risk and Deviant Behaviour" participated 22 specialists, many of whom are experts in the courts in Bulgaria or work in the centres for protection against violence and for work with children. The main topics in the qualification module were related to working with victims of domestic violence and gender-based violence.
Leader of the module was prosecutor Vladimir Nikolov - a lecturer at the National Institute of Justice and regional prosecutor in the town of Pleven.
The next module will be conducted again at Varna Free University in July and August and will be dedicated to the problems related to trafficking of women, child abuse and gender policies.
"The training programme was launched for the first time in the country and is expected to be the basis on which the programme in Forensic Psychological Expertise will be built", said Dr Krasimir Ivanov, Head of the Department of Psychology at VFU "Chernorizets Hrabar".
